For example, the default parameters do not apply the una corda and sustain pedal resonance samples extracted from this beautiful piano. Besides, Ravenscroft 275 has some parameters to set. You should do this test with VPC1, when you get it, and with more demanding piano examples. The quality of piano is defined by the harmony and mutual interaction of multiple sounds and rhythms, extracted with various velocities and with variable usage of pedal(s), not to say about the keyboard quality for controlling this interaction. Jethro, playing "Happy Birthday" on a crappy keyboard is not an objective test. Sing it soft, loud, gentle, whispering, smoothly, roughly, but try to keep a clean line.

In other words take that simple line and "sing it" through your fingers. Play a simple tune like "Happy Birthday" on your piano, but with good phrasing. I think those who own both these programs can repeat the same test I just did. I bought these programs just within the last few days and again, these are my first impressions, but the Pianoteq 6 program right now is outperforming the Ravencroft for playability. They both sounded high quality though with the distinct characters of the pianos they were trying to emulate. And maybe the crappy controller with it's limited action let me focus more specifically on the quality of the phrasing from these two programs or maybe when I play both of these programs through a top piano controller like that VPC-1 that is coming in a couple of weeks, the results may be different.Īs for the sounds, honestly upon first impressions, I couldn't tell a difference between the quality of the sampled versus modeled sounds. I don't know if other sampled sounds would produce the same results but this is my first impression with these digitized piano sounds playing through this old midi controller. I had harder time doing that with the Ravencroft piano then I did with the Pianoteq's pianos. Very similar to what I do when I play on and acoustic piano. I was able to make an intimate connection between my fingers and the sounds the keyboard was producing. The Pianoteq program was easily able to capture what I was trying to convey through my fingers as though the program was an extension of my thoughts. It was simply much easier to produce a clean "singing" line and subtle phrasing on Pianoteq 6 then it was to do the same on the Ravenscroft 275. The difference between the modeled pianos and the sampled Ravenscroft piano are night and day. My first impression just ignoring the quality and character of the piano sound itself. I can play some of the more advanced classical repertoire but I feel I still have more to learn and I still take lessons to improve myself. I've been told I have a good ear, and told I produce very good tone. I play regularly on acoustic grands including Steinways, Mason and Hamlin, Yamaha for over 35 years and own a Kawai RX-2 acoustic grand. I'm using a pair of Sennheiser HD497 headphones that are probably from the early 2000's but were top rated back in the days. My controller is a 15 year old RolandED PC-70 which is not weighted and only velocity sensitive.
#PIANOTEQ 5 EBAY MAC#
I've loaded up both these programs on an i5 core mac mini with 8 GB ram and an SSD (solid state drive)

I don't know if there are settings I should try to configure that could affect my opinions I've played around with the piano(s) on Pianoteq for about 20 minutes total and the Ravenscroft 275 on the VI Lab workstation for a total of about 10 minutes. I've only had these programs for a couple of days.
